We have had great meals at Gio but unfortunately last night was not one of them. The service was good as always but the food was sub par. My husband had the lasagna and I had their special SPIDINI DI POLLO. It was not hot and the flavors bland. The chicken had white sauce as did the white risotto and the white cauliflower. Not very pleasing from an appearance standpoint and the flavors all kind of melded together. I have had a lot better there. Perhaps it was an off night.
Liz was our server and she was awesome. The service was excellent, the food was good. My wife had the Chardonnay chicken and I enjoyed the beef medallions. It was a good experience. I’m sure we will return.
Visiting the area and GIO was recommended. Glad it was as the staff, food and experience were all wonderful. Saturday night, and prom night, so place was fully packed and noisy to a small degree but then again ITS ITALIAN which is always lively and fun. We can not wait for our next visit so we can GO AGAIN!!
The food was reasonable in price but the scallops were overdone and the pizza was not exceptional- the space seemed lovely but not as intimate and attentive as J Noto

GIO’s is a favorite; excellent food in a nice setting with reasonable prices. Service is usually excellent but not tonight. I’m going to presume our waiter was very new and chalk it up to that.
Nice glass of wine, very good salad, excellent eggplant parmigiana. The pasta, however, was actually horrible. Practically inedible. She had the pesto pasta and the lobster Mac n cheese for me. We were shocked and how bad these dishes were. (Best pasta in STL can still be had at the likes of Katie’s, Pastaria, Acero) If we were to return, we would stay away from pasta and try their entrees such as a steak, chicken or salmon.
Love Gio! I am from out of town and I make sure I get there every trip for a good meal. This was my first time having Liz as my server and she was amazing!!! Our group would ask questions about different pairings of food and drink and Liz nailed it. Liz is very friendly and helpful. And for 2 of our group who have not had the experience of Gio or Liz’s service, they were very impressed as we have every time we visit.
The fresh homemade pasta is incredible! Love the ambiance and food, the service is fantastic as well.
